(And Why Your Business Might Feel Harder Than It Should)

Here’s something I’ve noticed after working with so many business owners.

Most people think their biggest problem is time.

But very often… it’s actually how they work.

At the start of 2026, during Latte Networking with The Business Growth Network, I ran a simple exercise with the room.
Nothing complicated just a few questions about how people approach their work.

Within minutes people started laughing and pointing at each other:

"That’s definitely you."

Some realised they jump into everything immediately.
Others admitted they spend a lot of time planning before taking action.
Some had endless ideas but struggled to execute them.

It quickly became clear that most of us naturally fall into one dominant work style.

So I turned that little networking exercise into a 7-question Work Style Check.

👉 You can take the quiz here:

It takes less than a minute.

But the result might explain why your business sometimes feels heavier than it should.

The Four Work Styles

  • Doers move quickly.

You see something that needs doing and you just… do it.

    No overthinking. No endless planning.

This is an incredible strength because it keeps your business moving.

    But there’s a downside.

Doers often end up doing everything themselves which leads to overwhelm and burnout.

    Common signs:

    • constantly busy
    • inbox never empty
    • everything depends on you

    Your challenge isn’t motivation.
It’s letting go of control and building support around you.

  • Strategists love clarity.

You like to analyse, plan and understand the bigger picture before making decisions.

This often leads to very smart business choices.

    But sometimes…

    Planning becomes a comfortable delay.

You might spend weeks refining something that could have been tested much sooner.

    Common signs:

    • lots of notes and plans
    • careful decision-making
    • hesitation before launching something new

    Your challenge isn’t intelligence.
    It’s allowing imperfect action.

  • Visionaries are idea machines.

    You see opportunities everywhere.

    New offers.
    New projects.
    New ways of doing things.

Your creativity can move a business forward incredibly fast.

But without structure, ideas can pile up faster than they’re executed.

    Common signs:

    • multiple projects at once
    • lots of creative energy
    • unfinished initiatives

    Your challenge isn’t imagination.

It’s turning ideas into consistent systems.

  • Operators keep things running.

You’re organised, structured and good at managing the day-to-day side of business.

Systems, processes and details are your comfort zone.

But sometimes operators get stuck inside the business, focusing so much on operations that growth takes a back seat.

    Common signs:

    • strong systems
    • attention to detail
    • lots of operational responsibility

    Your challenge isn’t organisation.

It’s creating space to think bigger.

The Realisation Most Business Owners Have

Your work style isn’t the problem.

Every one of these styles has strengths.

The challenge appears when you try to run an entire business using just one style.

The most successful businesses combine:

✨ strategy
✨ ideas
✨ execution
✨ systems

And very often that means not doing everything alone.

Curious What Your Work Style Is?

Take the 60-second Work Style Check here:

I’d genuinely love to know what result you get.

You can also share it with another business owner and see if their work style matches yours.

Sometimes the results are surprisingly accurate.

And if you realised your work style means you're spending a lot of time on admin, operations, or tasks that drain your energy…

That’s exactly where the right support can make a huge difference.

Because business should feel challenging in the right ways - not constantly overwhelming.

Curious to hear your result 👀
